What does it mean to “deny myself?”

Jesus said, “If anyone wants to come with me, he must deny himself.”  Deny my agenda, my plans, my wisdom, my understanding, which are the fruit of independence/self-reliance/pride/worldliness.  Denying myself means ASKing Him about everything, and THANKing Him about everything, acknowledging that I don’t know what’s best, what’s thankable.  Denying myself means being curious and expectant about what He will do NEXT, in me, others, circumstances.  When I’m dead to my agenda, when I’ve freshly offered up to Him my physical, emotional, financial health, and told Him to do with me however He likes, that I trust Him, then I’m humble enough to enjoy others, myself, just as we are, and the circumstances He has crafted for all of us.  Ahhh.
